“So, why did you specifically choose to donate one of your perfectly healthy kidneys to a friend (aka so a friend could receive one)?”
(There is a longer story here actually- my kidney WAS a viable match for my friend Chad, but we were also willing to utilize the donor match program in order to get the best possible match. That is what the transplant team ultimately provided for us. In other words, my type O goes to a recipient type O and Chad’s blood type and other markers would be a closer match as well)
I have a two-part response, which is a general summation of over 6 months of inflection, investigation, and prayer.
- My logical reasoning, based on my current health and ethos.
- My worldview, based on my real experiences of living a Christian life. (Response coming soon)
Future donor blog posts from my point of view: This is more of a daily excerpt regarding our experience for that day to include: specific thoughts, fears, health and recovery updates. This can give you the reader a little insight into our journey. If your situation was similar to mine, I’d never met or heard of any kidney donation stories or known any donors in my 43 years.
My story is literally the first that I know and I’d like share part of my first hand account with you. Sometimes I will be blunt, but I will always be honest and give all glory to God as I believe much of it was written by His providence.
