10-21.
My brain is clearly compartmentalized. The day went fast and was focused on checking items off the work list.
- Got to meet Chad’s parents today, Lee and Rita. We sat one table away from where Chad, my coworker and I started off this journey about Ten months ago on a cold January day. (Adding in a special thanks to my coworker for taking his time to share his donor/recipient experience with us. He was the primary catalyst that gave us first-hand information, shot it to us straight, and still showed us hope).
- As I entered the front door, Chad’s mom was just inside the threshold of the second door. Now keep in mind, I’ve never met his parents before and I honestly wasn’t sure if this was his mom or not so I probably had a dumb look on my face wondering who this is that was blocking the door but was in no hurry to walk out. As I peered up, I saw Chad and another man whom I devised was his dad. I then peered down and surmised the woman who was now hugging me was his mom. (Chad had already shared a photo of me to his parents, so from his point of view his mom progressed in more of a bee-line towards me.) I think the only other time I hugged someone I just met was in Cuba after walking into the door of the house church as part of a typical cultural courtesy.
- Great fellowship, we held hands and prayed before lunch. We had great conversations and a nice extended lunch. Chad warned me to be aware of some “dad” jokes, but as troop master I’ve told 100’s of these myself now to an audience of groaning kids.
- For example: A little known fact: You are born with four kidneys. As you grow up, two of them become adult knees.
- I just might have a newly adopted aunt and uncle now! That would make Chad my adopted cousin. I was a little bummed that my kidney wouldn’t be going directly to Chad since that was the plan for most of the journey- making us brothers for sure, but this is all in God’s hands and led by the professionals on the team.
- One of my awesome co-workers rolled his chair at the end of my last day (today). He had a grin on his face and I said something to the effect of “Ya, please pray for me!” That was his intention and I was grateful for his encouragement and prayers before we left work that evening.
- I’ve shut off work for now and am ready to focus on the task at hand.
- Listened to an interesting podcast about serving. You don’t have to have it all together and be fully 100% sanctified in order to serve others. As you do serve in some aspect of God’s kingdom, He will bless you and sanctify you through the people and experiences you encounter along the way. I can say I fully agree with that as that has been true in my life.
