He was weeks away from starting his master’s degree in the US when a routine vaccine and a strange fever changed the direction of his entire life. Kamal Shah’s kidneys failed at 24, and a transplant meant to fix everything failed too, just days after the surgery. What came next was not a straight line back to normal. It was years of trials, setbacks, and one particularly close call during the 2004 tsunami that nearly cost him the treatment keeping him alive. But Kamal refused to let the diagnosis write the rest of his story. He built a company that now treats hundreds of thousands of patients across four countries, and he did it by insisting on one simple idea: call them guests, not patients, and give them their lives back.
