Kidney disease comes with a vocabulary all its own. If you have ever felt like you needed a medical-to-human translator, you are not alone. The terms can sound intimidating, clinical, or downright confusing, but behind each one is a story, an experience, and sometimes even a laugh.
In this post, I break down some of the most common words you will read on this dialysis and transplant journey, pairing the straightforward medical definition with my tongue-in-cheek version. Think of it as a crash course in kidney lingo with equal parts education and some comic relief.

- Definition: When the immune system attacks a transplanted organ.
- Chad’s definition: Your body is throwing shade at the new kidney, as if it’s the new kid in school. “Look, I’m sorry to tell you, but the kidney wants to be ‘just friends.’ It’s not them; it’s you.”

- Definition: A test that measures how well the kidneys filter blood.
