Guest Post: The Scar by Kathy Hornyak

I wrote this 11/26/2025 in response to a post about scars one has after an organ transplant or organ donation. The same goes for anyone who’s had open-heart surgery! The scar. I’m 17+ years post-renal transplant. I have 2 brothers with renal transplants, and a sister and a brother who were kidney donors. God bless us, everyone! 🌿

The Scar

The Transplant Scar

That transplant scar
That transplant scar
It’s better than a tattoo.

Wear. It. With. Pride!

It is a symbol of your strength, your Proven ability to endure.
Your tenacity in withstanding illness, sickness, pain, and suffering.
It’s a symbol of Something Accomplished.
Something you’ve Done. (Not just talked or thought about)
Something you endured Through and came out the other end of.

It’s a mark of a challenge accepted and Conquered.
A mark of your determination to overcome whatever comes your way.

It’s a mark of your Journey, your health journey.
A mark of your commitment to continuing to strive for
a decent, healthy Life for you and your loved ones.

So you show it
and
You wear that scar with pride 🌿
